  • Since 1899, the VFW has offered a range of programs addressing the needs of America’s service members, veterans, and their families. These include VA claims assistance, legislative advocacy, troop support, youth activities, community service, and scholarships, demonstrating our commitment to giving back to those who have served.

  • While VFW Posts are generally private and not subject to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, if a Post is open to the public, it must comply with the ADA and allow service animals.

Private VFW Posts not covered by the ADA should present the issue of service animal access to the general membership for a vote. Generally, the VFW supports ADA provisions related to service animals, ensuring that members with disabilities can access their Posts. For more details on service animals and the ADA, visit the U.S. Department of Justice website.

  • Contact the National Personnel Records Center at 314-801-0800 or visit their website to request copies or update your records.

  • No, the VFW's congressional charter prohibits endorsing or supporting any political candidates or individuals running for public office.

  • You can donate a vehicle through the VFW Foundation, which uses the proceeds to support various programs for service members, veterans, and their families. The process is straightforward, and your donation is tax-deductible. While the Foundation does not directly provide vehicles to individuals, your contribution significantly impacts the lives of America's heroes.

  • Contact the Donor Services Department by email at vfwfundraising@vfw.org or call toll-free at 1-833-VFW-GIVE (1-833-839-4483). Use the same contacts to remove your name from the solicitation mailing list.

  • The VFW operates as an independent, nonprofit organization and relies on the generosity of patriotic Americans like you to ensure we can provide much-needed support to those who deserve it most.

Over the last decade, 72% of each dollar of support received from VFW members and patriotic Americans was applied directly to veterans' service, community service, legislative advocacy, and military service programs worldwide. See how your support matters.

  • Only veterans who have honorably served overseas in areas of foreign conflict can join the VFW. If you're a relative but not eligible for VFW membership, you can join the VFW Auxiliary. For more details, visit the VFW Auxiliary website or call 816-561-8655.
