Veteran Assistance Grants
 
The VFW was originally founded in 1899 to assist a sick and needy veteran. Continuing in that tradition the Texas VFW a 501 (c) (19) Non-profit Veterans Service Organization offers a variety of financial assistance grants to veterans through the National VFW Unmet Needs program the Texas VFW Foundation a 501 (c) (3) Non-profit Charity and various corporate and civic organizations who support veterans. 
 
Texas VFW Foundation Veterans Assistance Program.  This grant is designed to help lesson the burden of unexpected financial situations that are no fault of the applicant.  Available to any veteran with an honorable discharge, regardless of age or time period of service, who is a legal Texas resident.  Other conditions apply please see application instructions for more detail. Click here for more information and application. Funds from this program may come from the Fund For Veterans Assistance (FVA). Currently all funds from our most recent FVA grant have been expended and while we are applying for additional funding we are unable to provide financial asistance using FVA funds until such time as we receive additional funding.
 
Electrical Energy Grants from Austin energy for honorably discharged veterans who are a current Austin Energy customer that are experiencing a financial hardship due to no fault of their own. Click here for press release.
Natural Disaster Grants administered through the Texas VFW Foundation specifically for Texas VFW members in good standing to help offset displacement costs associated with evacuation due to a natural disaster in areas within Texas designated as a disaster area by the State or Federal Government.
 
Pro Bono Legal Services for Active Duty Service Members administered through the Texas VFW Foundation in partnership with several law firms for current service members from Texas or who reside in Texas who are experiencing legal issues due to military service related to deployment as covered under the Service Members Civil Relief Act of 2003 (Formerly known as the Soldiers and Sailors Relief act of 1940). All requests must be prescreened by Texas VFW per State Bar of Texas guidelines and cannot be a domestic or criminal matter. Contact Dan West at Texas VFW Headquarters for more information.
